It has made all the difference in the world with our 2 year old! My son now has a spontaneous vocabulary of words I counted over a three-day period. He initiates interactions with gestures and words.
He makes a lot more eye contact. And he is engaging in back-and-forth interactions for often two hours at a time! The strategies that Laura teaches are the same ones she used when working with my son, who has apraxia of speech. My son made incredible progress working with Laura.
These strategies are very effective and easy to apply to a variety of speech and Ianguage disorders. I wish all speech therapists possessed this level of knowledge and skill. As a Mom of a late talker, I would recommend this DVD to all speech therapists working with children. Check out the entire DVD line out at […]. Therapy Manuals.

A girly girl is someone who wholeheartedly embraces her femininity, without sacrificing her personality or strength. She cares about her behavior, style and appearance, but is never self-centered or mean and is always herself. She is someone other girls look up to and want to be friends with.
Being a girly girl is a personal choice, and no one should pressure you to act in any way you are uncomfortable with. But if this is the attitude and look that you are going for, all you need to do is cultivate the right behavior and appearance. To be a girly girl, keep yourself looking fresh and feminine by bathing daily and keeping your skin moisturized. You can also look your best by keeping your nails manicured and styling your hair every day.
Another way to enhance your femininity is to wear perfumes or sweet-smelling deodorants. Wearing makeup can also make you look more girly, so start practicing with the basics, like wearing a little lip gloss and mascara. From there, you can experiment with more elaborate makeup looks. Learning to Talk Like a Woman
The peculiarities of the way they talked gave us phrases adopted into everyday language, such as "whatever," "totally," and "oh my god," which even has its own acronym in text. To talk like a Valley girl, add a distinctive rising pitch to the end of sentences, and spice up your vocabulary with well-known Valley girl slang.
Raising the pitch of the voice at the end of sentences is one of the most characteristic qualities of Valley girl speech. While most people's voices only rise in pitch when posing a question, a Valley girl's voice rises even when making statements such as, "Seriously, like that dress is so for a Betty. They frequently injected "seriously" into their sentences as way of showing approval.

The word was first used in Several dictionaries cite as the first time the word himbo was used. By then, the word bimbowhich earlier in the 20th century had been used for both males and females, was being used predominately for females, so himbo, a combination of "him" and "bimbo", was coined to refer specifically to males.
Partridge defines himbo as "a man objectified by his good looks and presumed lack of intellectual qualities, a man who trades on this image, a gigolo". Merriam-Webster 's definition is "an attractive but vacuous man". Another slang dictionary emphasizes the sexual connotation of the word, describing it as "a male version of a bimbo, whore or slut ", and using the example, "He's such a himbo he'd sleep with anything that has a pulse. InSherry Sylvester of CNN interviewed male Hollywood celebrities about the use of the term 'himbo' and sexual objectification of men in entertainment and received a range of reactions.
I read that and laughed my head off. David Charvet of Baywatch noted, "You find yourself doing a show for three years where you are sticking your chest out and your shoulders are back and you're holding in your stomach and you realize that that's so boring after awhile. In a interview, sociologist Michael Kimmel, who analyzes the himbo stereotype in his book Manhood in America: A Cultural Historysaid there are two types of himbos, those created for women, like the model Fabioand those created for men, like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone.
The man's himbo, says Kimmel, is usually known for having some kind of prowess, like Charles Atlas or Stallone, whereas the woman's himbo is 'kinder and gentler' like Woody Harrelson or, like Fabio, "a male Zsa Zsa Gabor He also observes that the origin of the himbo stereotype can be seen in mid 20th century television shows, whose audiences were primarily women, "that traditionally present Mother as the all-wise and Father as a bit of a bumbling idiot".
In her book, Beyond the Double Bind: Women and Leadershipcommunications professor Kathleen Hall Jamieson uses bimbo and himbo as examples of 'linguistic reversal' which "creates a range of condemnation applicable to men that mirrors that for women. InSeventeen editor Atoosa Rubenstein and psychologist Jeff Gradere spoke on the Today Show about the "himbo cultural phenomenon". Rubenstein describes variations of himbos like the Hound Dog Himbo and the Socialite Himbo, and compares current actors to the different categories.
However, somewhere along the way, himbos have warped this idea and turned it into a free ride at the expense of women, which is disrespectful and manipulative.
Lauren Bans of GQ Magazine discussed the rise of the himbo character in entertainment in her article, "Bimbos with Balls", noting the proliferation of "a new breed of buffed up hollow men" was replacing female bimbo characters in shows like New GirlCougar Townand Parks and Recreation30 Rockas well as movies like Magic Mike and Showgirls. Citing even earlier himbo appearances in Seinfeld and FriendsBans theorizes that the 21st century has spawned a "Golden Age of himbodom", based on a new Hollywood vision of women as "crass sexual aggressors" who "need subjects to crassly sexually aggress".
InChristian Toto criticized the himbo trend as a kind of ' reverse objectification ' for men, setting a double standard in which it has become more acceptable for men to be sex objects than women. Noreen Malone of The New Republic correlates the rise of the Himbo stereotype and its "ornamental masculinity" with the disappearance of opportunities for 'real expressions of manly manliness', especially for working class men, as well as to a shift in power dynamics between men and women.
